Let’s skip right ahead to the important stuff. The New Year’s Resolutions. Are you a believer in this kind of thing? Some people do diets or make other general commitments. I’ve always thought it should be something about self-improvement. Well, for myself, I’ve noticed a problem with the younger kids, which made me take a look at myself. The teenagers to the twenty-somethings while out having dinner or for that matter even when they’re just out walking, they have to be looking at their phones. We went to a brunch yesterday, and I was amazed while having breakfast how many of my kids felt it necessary to have the phone out and “multitask” while they’re right adjacent to me and could just have conversed with the people around you. A photographer put together a series of photos that I think illustrated how badly of a problem and how we look like a culture this way.
So how does this apply to me? I’m going to make a more significant effort to just be present with the people around me. At times, I’m definitely better at that than others. I don’t want to be one of the idiots in the above photos. But – it’s an odd revelation for me as I’ve spent my life being very tech-centric. But I think we’ve gone too far with the cell phones and having to be ‘always connected’ and not missing anything.
Tonight’s the Golden Globes. I’m a bit fortunate in that I’ve seen most of the films. My favorite films of the year.
- Ford v Ferrari
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
- A Marriage Story
- The Irishman
I present one of my favorite scenes from ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’
Have an excellent Sunday everyone!
