Bring on Sunday

Good morning everyone.

A good Saturday for college football was had. Ohio State lost in what was a good game. My friend Pete’s team at Oregon pulled out a victory. Back to  Ohio State. I think this is just what the team needed. I felt like they were a bit over ranked at the beginning of the season. But they take into account many factors like returning seniors, recruiting, injuries, etc. 2014 they lost their second game and then went on a tear the rest of the season. I’m not sure I’m seeing that with this team. I really hope that I’m wrong.

I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention the classless act at the end of the game as the Sooners were celebrating.

Lexi Thompson pulled out a victory over Lydia Ko. Nice to see her go head to head and come out victorious.

Funny Note.

My buddy Bob Madsen dropped his son off at Cal Poly yesterday. They were greeted by this on the streets. They might as well be screaming ,”Well done on giving us your hard earned money. Keep giving us more…”

iPhone Announcement Tuesday

Tuesday is the event. 10 am is the time. In the new Steve Jobs theater that just got finished where Apple spent almost $20,000 per seat. You enter this theater and take a stairway below ground and then you’re in an entirely underground theater environment. What an excellent tribute to the man that had the vision to bring us the IPhone.

I’m expecting an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the gem – the iPhone X. The IPhone X may start at $1200. A $400 premium over the other phones because it supports wireless charging and has an entirely OLED screen. I think we’ll also see an Apple Watch with cellular connectivity and an AppleTV that does 4k.

It’s Thursday. Enjoy

Billy Payne Steps Down

He was big for Augusta National. A Chairman that really brought Augusta into the 2000’s. The Drive, Chip, and Putt – new Media room – honorary starters – and countless other initiatives were all his. I’m sad to see him step down but glad to see that they looked for another chairman with his credentials.

142nd Open Championship - Previews

If you take these photos and you put them on your phone, there is a chance that you’re not doing enough to secure them. Bingo! They can be hacked. Also – nearly 7 in 10 people that I talk with don’t have the latest software on their phones and computers. This gives hackers a gateway into your life.

Apple Event

Everyone is waiting for the next IPhone and the question is now – when will it be announced? Then the question is ‘when will it be available?’ Lots of rumor sites suggest supply for this IPhone will be tougher and that we’ll see three variations.

IPhone 7s

IPhone 7s Plus

IPhone Pro (IPhone 8)

We’re starting to get hints as some of the cell phone carriers have been told when to start putting up promotional material and advertising. 9to5mac is reporting that we’re looking for a September 12th date.

One of my Favorite Movie Scenes

After Apple Event Thoughts

In case you didn’t see it yesterday. Here it is summed up in ten minutes.

Anyone remember the IPhone 3G that was pure black and used to scratch easily and show all of those scratches. Yep! It’s back and they’re (Apple) is saying that you definitely need a case should you go ‘Jet Black’ and that it is sensitive to scratching.

I’m most intrigued by the IPhone 7 Plus as it actually has two cameras. One for wide angle and one for more ‘zoomed’ telephoto photos. In the past when you’ve ‘zoomed’ it does it all in software digitally. It’s more of a software cheap way of zooming in on photos – think of it as just cropping in. When you do it thru hardware there is no loss in image quality.

I’m excited about the new Apple Watch. Finally it’s waterproof. A screen and power boost. But perhaps the most significant part – finally GPS is added.

Kind of on a funny note to me. Apple finally realized the idiocy of the Apple Watch Edition. Whatever that gold version of it is called. That was a disaster and I thought from the announcement that it didn’t suit the type of company that Apple is. You’re not Rolex – you’re a tech titan. Act like it. So they finally cut it entirely from the line. Smart move. Long overdue.

Back to the IPhone 7.

Apple did take the big step in getting rid of the headphone port. Not a big deal to me but if you did just drop $500 on a new set of headphones that doesn’t do wireless and you’re not keen on carrying around an adapter – then you’ll really prefer the IPhone 6s.
