Kelly to the Defense. Happy Friday

Kelly to the Defense

Interesting that he mentions ‘Joe Dunford’ as his casualty officer. He was my Battalion Commander at Camp Lejeune and was one hell of an officer. Though having a locked company officer made a bigger difference than a locked on Battalion Commander. I’ll explain more in the future.

My takeaway on Kelly. So what exactly is John Kelly defending? The statement that President Obama did not extend condolences to Mr. Kelly, which appears false, given that President Obama hosted Mr. Kelly at luncheon for parents whose children died in military service or the statement that President Trump made to the family of Sgt. Johnson. Or is Mr. Kelly defending the utter lack of preparedness that President Trump brings to every facet of his presidency, in which he refuses to be engaged and prepared before conducting the business of president, including consoling the families of fallen soldiers?

In any event, Mr. Kelly’s statements to do not seem to comprehend the fact that Mr. Trump’s comments to a Sgt. Johnson’s family were profoundly upsetting.

Cubs Lose

I saw this one coming. After the first half of their season I thought they might have some issues with kicking the offense into gear.

Congratulations to the new champions of the National League.

They still have a lot to be proud of….and so goes the plannning for what games we’re going to next year. Nope – still not going to see the Padres. HaHa.

Kirkland Ball Back….

KirklandSig-1021x580

The Costco Kirkland golf ball was back in stock for a day. Did you happen to be one of those few that logged in and was able to buy two dozen? *Cough* I was.

Few more days until Halloween…

Stranger Things comes out on Netflix soon.

Cubs win. Cubs win. Holy Cow!

Cubs Win

We did it. Onto the NLCS for the 3rd straight year. I was photographing some volleyball last night and it was looking like it was going to be one of those kinds of losses on volleyball – so boom I removed myself and it was time to cheer on my beloved Cubs. It turned out to be one of the closest games since last year’s game seven.

Quick shower before bed. #FlyTheW

Conan and Tom Cruise

Quite funny. You’re welcome.

Speaking of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry Seinfeld with President Obama.

Lastly….

I was having a discussion yesterday about Coldplay and how good they are. But what I enjoyed even more was the Howard Stern interview with Chris Martin. Here you go.

Happy Friday

Have you seen this idiot? Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron trying to explain to people that these earthquakes, hurricanes, are all part of God’s plan. That we’re failing him and this is our punishment. I’m all for people having religion as long as it guides them in a positive and non-destructive way. But when you start to use it as a tool to assign blame – it loses its value.

I was trying to think of an adequate response. Ahh, here it is….

Cubs Win

Lester is back. Baez comes back and is strong. Cubs are looking solid but not sure how deep they can go in the playoffs.

Bernie on Colbert

It took him a while. But he was indeed able to find something nice about Trump.

Well Hello Sunday

Birthday for Doug

My buddy Doug had his forty-something birthday event last night. I was glad to be able to attend and spend quite a bit of time with everyone last night. It’s still quite different seeing them as parents. Happy Birthday Doug!

Baseball

Cubs managed to steal one from the Brewers to tie the series at 1-1. Cubs now are leading the division with a one and a half game lead. Not much of a cushion.  Their win came thanks to Jason Heyward in the 11th inning.

Did you happen to see the crazy play with the Boston Red Sox game? Damn. It’s as good as baseball gets.

Glenn Beck on CNN

Usually, I don’t mind listening to him. It seems like he knows how to tone things down when he’s on premium channels but doesn’t mind getting obsurd when people are listening to theblaze (his home network). He makes some valid points below.

Montero and IPhone Ten Years Ago

Miguel Montero on Wednesday said he takes responsibility for ripping pitcher Jake Arrieta after the Nationals ran wild in a victory over the Cubs on Tuesday.

But after getting designated for assignment by the Cubs, he also didn’t back down from what he said.

“Sometimes people can’t handle the truth,” he said. “That’s my biggest issue. I’m just straightforward, man, a straight shooter. I’m not going to say you’re pretty when you’re ugly.”

It’s a good thing the Cubbies parted ways. Hopefully, they can trade him for something but most likely he’ll be released. Let us not forget that he was very influential in getting the Cubbies to the world series.

Cubs fans just have a feeling of ‘we did it last year and this year we’re just exhausted.’ It would be like asking an astronaut if he’d like to go to the moon – again. Well, you’ve already been there once. The Cubbies just don’t have that fire or that sense of enjoyment that they had last year.

IPhone Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago, on this very day, the IPhone was announced by Steve Jobs.

No product has generated more revenue for Apple than their iPhone.

Here is Steve Jobs talking about the origin of the IPhone.

Of course, you cannot forget how Steve Balmer thought that the iPhone was going to be ridiculous.

US Open Fun, John McEnroe and his mouth, Cubs vs Nationals

Excellent Tuesday.

Anyone see that that the US Open trophy was used for some fireball shots in Vegas?

John McEnroe

He ran his mouth saying that Serena would be 700 on the Men’s circuit. He also brings up that he’d like to see the ladies be available to play with the men. He commented on this on the DP Show.

Cubs vs Nationals

We held on last night to win 5-4. Watching now the Jake Arrietta matchup with Sherzer (sp!). Definitely a good matchup.

Jake is sporting his new look.

Cubs and the US Open

Cubs

All this brew-ha-ha over his slide into homeplate. It’s baseball. It’s supposed to be a man’s sport. Give me a break with the coddling. Also we’re talking about the most heavily padded player on the field. No, I’m not wishing him injury but this is just being blown way out of proportion. It’s the baseball that I grew up watching. Catching is a tough business.

Now let’s get a bit technical. Tell me the rules and I can play the game.

The issue, obviously, is whether the collision was legal under the rules. The rule in question is 7.13, which holds thusly:

(1) A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate).  If, in the judgment of the Umpire, a runner attempting to score initiates contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate) in such a manner, the Umpire shall declare the runner out (even if the player covering home plate loses possession of the ball).  In such circumstances, the Umpire shall call the ball dead, and all other base runners shall return to the last base touched at the time of the collision.

As is always the case in the rules, the official comment provides illumination:

Rule 7.13 Comment: The failure by the runner to make an effort to touch the plate, the runner’s lowering of the shoulder, or the runner’s pushing through with his hands, elbows or arms, would support a determination that the runner deviated from the pathway in order to initiate contact with the catcher in violation of Rule 7.13.  If the runner slides into the plate in an appropriate manner, he shall not be adjudged to have violated Rule 7.13.  A slide shall be deemed appropriate, in the case of a feet first slide, if the runner’s buttocks and legs should hit the ground before contact with the catcher.  In the case of a head first slide, a runner shall be deemed to have slid appropriately if his body should hit the ground before contact with the catcher

MLB talked with him and Rizzo had this quote about this conversation

“It was not like I was going in with a cheap shot. I did not go in with my shoulder lowered like a linebacker and really took a shot. I went in like a last-second slide. I was not really sure what to do or where to go. That was (Torre’s) understanding of it, as well. I was not going in trying to end Austin Hedges’ career. We were both trying to make a play to win ballgames for our team. It was not like I was going in trying to hurt him.” – Anthony Rizzo

The whole thing is definitely being overblown. It was good hard baseball. A good throw from the center fielder. Good play by the catcher. Rizzo trying his best to score. This is what baseball is about.

Madden appeared on the Score 760 to discuss it.

US Open – Fox Screws Up Again

imrs

I’m not sure why they feel it’s necessary to comment on who his girl friend is. Just say ‘there is his special lady…’ or even ,”I’m not sure who that is!” But why would you want to guess wrong on a nationally televised broadcast. At least Brad Faxon was there to correct it.

Video below of the incident:

Yes, his actual girl friend is Jena Sims. You may have seen her in some terrible films such as Sharnado 3: Oh Hell No.
