Golf at Aviara. Birthdays of Yesterday. Ron Howard. Basketball One and Done.

Aviara

Yesterday the guys and I went off to Aviara to have a nice round of golf. Course was in excellent shape and the layout was nice. Even nicer, they had a blue-white combo tee sheet that allows for a mid-shorter to longer tee range. So that fit perfectly with the group.

After the round – a lot of guys that had a lot of fun.

My round. I was just tired from this week. Between doing some photography and golf practice, I was just beat this week. Creatively my mind was zonked.

But still – definitely a lot of fun and I highly enjoyed the course.

Today I’m 40

Well, like Dr. Fisher said last week at my physical. It’s just another number and the body doesn’t know any different.

What’s odd though. I was around for both my parents turning forty. I remember theirs. It just makes me reminisce a lot of times of yesterday.

Turning 11. Throwing my birthday party. Man – check out that outfit.

Other News…

Ron Howard has taken the helm for the Han Solo movie. We’ll see how this pans out.

Dan Patrick had a good take on college athletes playing one year and then done. Mostly referencing the NBA draft.

Up this Morning

Last day of being 39. No big deal. It just feels a bit odd. What I’m really wanting is the ability to call either of my parents. Now that’s a weird feeling. But I’m heading to a beautiful golf course to play golf with some friends. Scotty, Gary, Doug – it’ll definitely be a very exciting day. Even better with the ultra-discounted rate that we got on the golf. (Thanks, Bob Madsen)

Yesterday: I highly enjoy the round of golf that I got with Keith McKee. Always fun buddy.

Moving onto something more pleasant.

Great start to the road trip!

Cubbies steamrolled over the Marlins. The offense kicked into high gear.

I guess when you’re the President of the United States you can drive your golf cart onto the putting green. WTF?!?

Father’s Day

Father’s Day

It’s upon us. It’s that time of the year where we pay tribute to all the dads. Happy Father’s Day – Dad I wish you were around today and that we could play a round of golf.

I’m reminded, that while I do miss my dad, that I’m grateful to have a daughter that calls me ‘dad.’

US Open

US Open is upon us as well and finishes on father’s day. This is definitely a US Open unlike any other. So many players in contention. Definitely anyone’s game.  Fifty years ago today Jack Nicklaus met Arnold Palmer and had one of their legendary matches.

I appreciate everything that the USGA is doing to honor ‘The King’. Today they’re giving everyone in attendance a replica of his 1960 player’s badge.

Golf Yesterday at Sycuan

Pete and my buddy Gary took second. Two man scramble for the seniors and it’s really just such an advantage to have a low-handicap player to start with.

Doug and I got out for a fun round. His wife will nice enough to let him to get out for some golf. This week and next. Two rounds of golf in two weeks. Next Friday we’re at Aviara and got a great rate thanks to my coach, Bob Madsen.

Doug definitely had a good round going.

Myself – just a casual 76 where I was just out there having fun. Not bad for playing from the tips.

What do I take away from it? I didn’t get a single opportunity up and down. Four opportunities and didn’t get one up and down. Three putt on 16 was stupidity. So it’s another round that could have been much lower.

Comey, Golf, and Gal Gadot

I’ve taken a few days off from writing on my website. Now back to the fire…

Comey Testimony

Comey gave his testimony yesterday on the hill. What was gained? We learned that Donald Trump is a strange man. Comey said he felt uncomfortable with the nature of his personal meetings with Trump, including a private dinner at the White House. He said Trump told him he had “hope” that the then-director would “let Flynn go,” and that he took the suggestion as a “direction.” Is that obstruction of justice? Nope. Is it stupid? Yep. If this were litigated it would probably be called ‘Trump vs Competence”. Guess who wins?

What was odd? Usually, after an event like this, you’d have former Attorney Generals and White House aides lined up to defend the President. Not in this case. Well, Donald had Donald Trump Jr. – but former aid to George Bush Jr took care of him well.

“A guy who kills baby elephants for kicks to be giving James Comey a lesson in character is rich at best, and pathetic at worst,” she said.

First Wednesday Tournament

Holy Crap! We won.

I’ve played in two of these events where we were just crazy under par. First one was a scramble at Cottonwood. Second – last Wednesday. The format was two – Best Balls of Four. So you just take your lowest two scores in the group and that’s what you post. You wouldn’t know how well we played by some of the videos that I took.

This weekend – the Club Championship.

Wonder Woman

Holding strong at the box office. Huge success. Now the big issue is can they get the director back for the sequel?!?

Classic Ernie Els

In classic Ernie Els fashion, he penalized himself after chipping in for eagle. He wasn’t sure if the ball was his – so he proceeded to mark it to identify it. Then claim the ball came out too well based on how he put it back.

“The ball came out too good,” Els told reporters after his round. “So I felt I didn’t quite probably put it exactly where I should have.”

“It’s one of those things. The game of golf is what it is,” Els said. “I know deep down the ball wasn’t quite where it should be, and you know, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. So be it. It’s a five, and we move on.”

Day One of Member-Guest – Official

Member-Guest

Our Member-Guest is always something of fun. I enjoy the people. I enjoy the environment. But it’s the 2% that really drag the enjoyment out of it for me. The flip side of that coin is when I hear this –

“Man I shot 73 today. I haven’t done that in like six months. It was a long frickin time.”

You hear that coming from a 5-6 handicap player and it’s within the realm of reason. But when I start to see the higher handicapped and flighted teams – and they’re posting rounds of 53 and 56 even in a ‘Best Ball’ – I start to wonder.

Anyway – day two of the tournament is upon us. Time to get ready and head on out.

I’ll post more on this tonight.

Happy Wednesday

Golf Yesterday

I played some golf yesterday and was trying to do some prep for the Member-Guest tournament that is this weekend. On my “prep” ball I shot an 81. I’m counting four shots that I’d never hit in a tournament. That being said – watch me on the day of the tournament count twelve strokes I could have cleaned up. HaHa.

On a good note – on 18 I asked my buddy Gary to take some video of myself and I hit the pin on 18. Tap in birdie.

So for my buddy Jem Doonan that jokes that there is never video of my swing – well here you go.

Comey Memo

It looks like Comey wrote a memo about a dinner that he had with Trump and wrote that Trump asked if he could see his way into “letting this go.”

Can Trump go one day without something blowing up in his face?

Here’s my advice for Mr. Trump. You need to stop thinking of yourself as a monarch and viewing things as you’re in control of the people. Instead, think of it as it’s your job to serve ‘ALL’ the people.

That is what public service is all about.
