Father’s Day

Father’s Day

It’s upon us. It’s that time of the year where we pay tribute to all the dads. Happy Father’s Day – Dad I wish you were around today and that we could play a round of golf.

I’m reminded, that while I do miss my dad, that I’m grateful to have a daughter that calls me ‘dad.’

Happy Father’s Day – Dad

US Open

US Open is upon us as well and finishes on father’s day. This is definitely a US Open unlike any other. So many players in contention. Definitely anyone’s game.  Fifty years ago today Jack Nicklaus met Arnold Palmer and had one of their legendary matches.

I appreciate everything that the USGA is doing to honor ‘The King’. Today they’re giving everyone in attendance a replica of his 1960 player’s badge.

Golf Yesterday at Sycuan

Pete and my buddy Gary took second. Two man scramble for the seniors and it’s really just such an advantage to have a low-handicap player to start with.

Doug and I got out for a fun round. His wife will nice enough to let him to get out for some golf. This week and next. Two rounds of golf in two weeks. Next Friday we’re at Aviara and got a great rate thanks to my coach, Bob Madsen.

Doug definitely had a good round going.

Myself – just a casual 76 where I was just out there having fun. Not bad for playing from the tips.

What do I take away from it? I didn’t get a single opportunity up and down. Four opportunities and didn’t get one up and down. Three putt on 16 was stupidity. So it’s another round that could have been much lower.

Day One of Member-Guest – Official

Member-Guest

Our Member-Guest is always something of fun. I enjoy the people. I enjoy the environment. But it’s the 2% that really drag the enjoyment out of it for me. The flip side of that coin is when I hear this –

“Man I shot 73 today. I haven’t done that in like six months. It was a long frickin time.”

You hear that coming from a 5-6 handicap player and it’s within the realm of reason. But when I start to see the higher handicapped and flighted teams – and they’re posting rounds of 53 and 56 even in a ‘Best Ball’ – I start to wonder.

Anyway – day two of the tournament is upon us. Time to get ready and head on out.

I’ll post more on this tonight.

Day One of the Member-Guest

Thanks Bob for joining us

Day One

The Sycuan Member-Guest 2017 is in full swing. Players of all playing abilities have joined together for two days of competitive golf. Officially starting tomorrow.

Day one is in the books and it’s a kind of non-tournament. A $50 sweeps tournament on Friday isn’t much but it gets everyone kind of in tournament mode. Or at least those that participated in the Friday event.

Above is one of our first time Member-Guest players hitting a huge tee ball. I realized something while playing today. It’s really not about the format or even if you win. It’s about the company and who you play with. That I enjoy quite a bit.

Keith McKee hits his approach shot on #2 of Oak

I shot a 77 for the day. About eight shots better than last year. My partner, Keith, shot a 79 but I got the feeling that he wasn’t entirely firing on all cylinders. Tomorrow is a new day – we’ll see.

I’m exhausted. Time for bed.

Happy Wednesday

Golf Yesterday

I played some golf yesterday and was trying to do some prep for the Member-Guest tournament that is this weekend. On my “prep” ball I shot an 81. I’m counting four shots that I’d never hit in a tournament. That being said – watch me on the day of the tournament count twelve strokes I could have cleaned up. HaHa.

On a good note – on 18 I asked my buddy Gary to take some video of myself and I hit the pin on 18. Tap in birdie.

So for my buddy Jem Doonan that jokes that there is never video of my swing – well here you go.

Comey Memo

It looks like Comey wrote a memo about a dinner that he had with Trump and wrote that Trump asked if he could see his way into “letting this go.”

Can Trump go one day without something blowing up in his face?

Here’s my advice for Mr. Trump. You need to stop thinking of yourself as a monarch and viewing things as you’re in control of the people. Instead, think of it as it’s your job to serve ‘ALL’ the people.

That is what public service is all about.

Carrie Fisher, Golf, and More from Yesterday

I started the morning off with some golf at the lovely morning hour of 7:30 at Sycuan. Sycuan, btw, is in amazing shape these days. Greens and fairways are looking amazing. All the rain is helping but the recent work to the course is going to make it in excellent shape this summer as well.

As far as the golf, I played decent but putted awful. Three separate holes with three putts and a double bogey on an easy hole where I was being too aggressive to try and get us back in the match. 81 and should have been a 78 fairly easily. That’s the good news and the shining light of it.

My buddy Doug. Well he was a different story.

Doug on hole 10 of Willow

Four doubles and one triple and only 28% of Greens in Regulation. The highlight of the scorecard was not a single three-putt. But when you consider that he was even thru three holes – it was a round of “What could have been?!”

Next Wednesday will be the first Wednesday tournament and it’ll be the first competitive round of the new year.

Carrie Fisher passed away. This one hit me hard from my childhood. If it hadn’t been for her performance – we wouldn’t have the phenomenon that Star Wars is today.
